Medford is three different cities as far as windows go. A West Medford Victorian, a two family near Tufts and a post war cape off the Fellsway need three different answers, and the wrong one costs you either money or comfort. We walk the house and explain the options instead of handing you one price and a signature line.

1,500+ windows installed across the North Shore
The right windows for a coastal, historic town are not the same as a builder-grade suburban spec.
West Medford has Victorians with tall narrow sash and original trim worth keeping. The streets around Tufts are two and three families built for working families a century ago, with more openings than anyone expects. Toward Wellington and the Fellsway it is post war capes and ranches where the original aluminum or first generation vinyl is now at the end of its life. These are not the same job and they should not get the same quote.
The most useful thing we do on the first visit is usually subtraction. A sound sash with a failed balance is a repair. A fogged sealed unit is not repairable and has to go. Eight good windows do not need replacing because two bad ones sit next to them. We would rather do the smaller job and be the people you call in four years than sell you the whole house today.
Common here and we work around it. We schedule unit by unit so tenants are not without windows, each floor is about a day, and you get one quote with the floors broken out so you can do all of it or start with yours. If you have turnover between leases, that window is usually the easiest time and we will plan to it.
Medford takes building applications online only, and a contractor has to be registered with the city before they can even file. That sounds like our problem and it is, but it becomes yours when somebody quotes you a start date they cannot actually hit. We are set up and we pull the permit. Our Massachusetts HIC registration number is on the contract and on this site.
Medford has local historic districts, and a commission that reviews exterior changes visible from the street on properties inside them. The boundaries are not obvious from a map and they are not published in one clean list. If your house is old and near a district, call us with the address before you order anything. Approval comes first, and it is much easier to ask than to undo.
The number depends on the house, and in Medford that is not a dodge. Fourteen openings on a cape and thirty on a two family are different projects, and a Victorian with specialty shapes is different again. We measure every opening and quote the job rather than an average. The estimate is free and the written price is firm.
The manufacturers we buy direct and install ourselves.

A straight answer on whether to repair or replace, then an exact quote. That is the whole pitch.
We measure and look at your actual windows in your actual home.
Repair or replace. If a repair makes sense, we say so.
An itemized price in writing. No high-pressure close, no fake deadlines.
Clean, professional installation and a respectful job site.
No. The fog means the seal between the panes failed and the gas fill is gone, and there is no repair for it. The good news is you do not have to do the whole house. We replace what has actually failed and leave the rest.
Floor by floor, about a day each. Tenants keep their windows until the day their floor is scheduled. You get one quote with the floors broken out, so you can run the whole building at once or start with your own and do the rentals later.
Ask us what we would skip. On most first visits there is something we tell people to leave alone, and if there is nothing on your house we will say that too and explain why. You will get the options and the actual differences between them, not a single number.
Most Medford houses are one day. Larger ones or ones with bays and specialty shapes can run two. We close up each opening before moving to the next, so nothing is open overnight.
